Let’s first consider the name…..brilliant!
One of the key branding principles is having a great brand name….one that is memorable, conjures up something interesting in your mind and hopefully makes you to want to learn more. This is not an easy task, take it from me. The first step is relatively simple, finding a unique name you like, the second step is murder…..making sure your chosen name is not already being used by another company in a category remotely similar to yours, otherwise you may have an issue with trademark infringement. You would be surprised how many names and words in the English language are already being used. So kudos to Fleabags for selecting a memorable, interesting brand name that makes you smile.
Now, onto the concept:
Fleabags is the brainchild of Shira Entis, a fashion designer and Alex Bell, a lawyer who have been fleamarket addicts since they met at Brown University.
They were frustrated by the inconvenience and environmental hazard of accumulating plastic bags while marketing and they craved a convenient and fashion-hot tote that could fit all of their wares. From this need, Fleabags was born: large, lightweight and sturdy carry-alls that are also eco-friendly.
The bags are locally made in the Northeast, in limited edition, and are as green as possible while maintaining high quality. Fleabags are made with organic and vintage materials and vegetable-tanned and re-purposed leathers which are all sourced in the USA.
Fleabags are not inexpensive, but the design, superior construction and hand-made aspect do not come without their costs. I see these as investment pieces that will last for years to come and will appeal to those who are environmentally concerned.
